Listening Ears
Ep. 9: (Season 2) This is NOT "My Little Hobby"
Have you ever felt that stinging dismissal when someone casually refers to your business as your "little hobby"? Those seemingly innocent words carry weight, subtly diminishing what might be your life's work and passion.
Today's episode confronts this common experience faced by mother entrepreneurs, creators, and visionaries. We explore the powerful truth that what you're creating isn't small or insignificant—it's your legacy in motion. Whether you're crafting products at your kitchen table, coaching other mothers, or building your online presence during precious moments of quiet, your work transcends mere pastime status. It represents your unique gift to the world and future generations.
We also address the impossible standards mothers in business often face: the expectation to balance everything flawlessly without showing struggle. But your community doesn't need another perfectly curated highlight reel—they need your authentic journey, including the messy in-between moments. Your transparency creates permission for others to show up exactly as they are.
Remember that you're not just building a brand—you're building belief. Every time you persist through challenges, you demonstrate to your children what's possible. Your business becomes tangible proof that dreams can flourish even amid the beautiful chaos of motherhood. What you're creating matters deeply—to your family, to other women watching your journey, and to the future version of yourself who will look back with immense pride at what you've built.
Tag another mom entrepreneur who might need this reminder, and share your thoughts with me. I'm here cheering you on through every victory and challenge on your entrepreneurial journey.

Hello, my beautiful souls, and welcome back to another episode of Listening Ears podcast, your safe, empowering space to dive into the truths of motherhood, self-growth and creating the life you've always dreamed of. I'm your Vernae Bezear, and today's episode is for the entrepreneurs, creators and visionaries, especially the moms, who are out there building something every day that they could be proud of, episode after reflecting on how often our big dreams are reduced to quote unquote little hobbies, even if it's unintentionally. But today, today, we are reclaiming our vision and we're reclaiming our voice, because what we're building isn't small, it's big, it's huge and it matters. So let's dive in.
Vernae Bezear:Have you ever shared your dream or your project, or even a business idea that you were thinking about and someone casually called it your little hobby? These people might not mean any harm, but those words, those words have power and they sometimes have a way of minimizing what you do. So let's be clear, first and foremost what you're doing is not a hobby. It's your legacy. Maybe you're at your kitchen table crafting products. Maybe you're coaching other mothers, or maybe you're even writing that book between diaper changes, or building your website after everyone else is fast asleep.
Vernae Bezear:No matter how humble it looks from the outside, your work is more than a casual pastime. It's your gift, it's your purpose, it's your way of impacting your families for generations to come. When others don't see this, this vision, remember visionaries often see what others can't. Your vision was given to you because you are uniquely qualified to bring it to life. When you step out and choose entrepreneurship, especially as a mom, you aren't just starting a business, especially as a mom. You aren't just starting a business. You're literally aligning your work with your values, with your mind and, most importantly, with your heart. It's not just about profits or sales, even though those things are important. It's really about building something. Are important is really about building something, something that can free you mentally, spiritually and emotionally. Business as your legacy in motion. You're making choices today that will affect your family, tomorrow and generations forward.
Vernae Bezear:Let's pause and reflect right here. What is the deeper why behind your business? Hold on to that truth, because it's your bright light on those days when the world tries to diminish yours. Here's a gentle reminder you don't owe anyone a flawless version of yourself or your business. You don't owe anyone perfection. You only owe yourself permission Permission to show up exactly as you are Permission to learn, grow and evolve. This is especially true as mothers. We're often expected to effortlessly balance everything home, business, family without even breaking a sweat. But let's release that pressure today. Your authenticity, your messy in-between creating, your behind-the the scenes struggles and triumphs those are the stories your community needs right now. They don't need another perfectly curated highlight reel. They need the real you.
Vernae Bezear:When someone calls your business a little hobby, use it as fuel, not bitterly or with disdain, but intentionally. Let it remind you how crucial it is to own your story and proudly speak life into what you're creating your business, your dreams, your projects. They deserve your respect. First, when you speak confidently about what you're creating, others will eventually learn to do the same. You are the example. You're not just building a brand. You're building belief. You're building hope. You're building tangible proof that dreams, even in the midst of the beautiful chaos of motherhood, are possible, of motherhood are possible.
Vernae Bezear:As we wrap up today, I want you to hold this truth close. What you're doing matters. It matters deeply. It matters to your children, who see their mom better, bravely creating something from nothing. It matters to other women who see you stepping out on faith and showing what's possible, and it absolutely unequivocally matters to the future version of you, who will look back and feel deep pride and gratitude for what you've built. So I ask that you tag another mom, another builder who's doing the work, someone who might really need this reminder. And, as always, I love to hear from you. Message me, your thoughts, your stories, your struggles. I'm here. I'm here every day to cheer you on every single step of the way. Thank you for listening and until next time, stay bold, stay brave and keep building.
